The series as a whole will address five key aspects of children's learning.
Explicit emphasis within the programmes will be placed upon:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the world (including mathematics). Just like pre-school children, the Hoobs are exploring our world with an open mind, experiencing the same thrills and facing similar challenges along the way.

The other four areas will be dealt with but in a more implicit way:

  • Emotional, personal and social development will be explored through the relationships the Hoobs have both with each other and with the Tiddlypeeps they meet on their travels.

  • Communication and language will be covered in its widest sense. Children will delight in experimenting with Hooby Language and gestures.

For instance, when they greet one another Hoobs say 'Hoobledoop! Hoobledoop! Whoop! Whoop! Whoop!', accompanied by various actions. They always greet children (Tiddlypeeps) in this way too.

The Hoob goodbye is similarly energetic and goes 'Hoobletoodledoo!' with a special Hooby wave.

Hoobs have their own Hoob 'Hurray' and when they want to concentrate hard on a problem they join together in a 'Hoobythink'.

When a Hoob is delighted with something he or she will say that it's 'Hoobledoobledooper!'

  • Expressive and aesthetic development will be explored within the programmes, encouraging expression and communication of ideas in art and design, music, dance, imagination and role play.

  • Physical development and movement will be encouraged as children respond to rhythm, music and story by means of their own gestures, learning in the process to move freely with pleasure and confidence.
