Choose one or two of these ideas to explore
with your child:
- Make some bubble mixture from washing-up
liquid and water. A simple 'wand' can be made from a twisted piece
of metal coathanger, wrapped in disposable dishcloth. (Take care
that there are no sharp points that could hurt your child.) Have
fun blowing bubbles together, taking turns. See if either of you
can catch a bubble without it bursting!
- Let your child blow bubbles in a container
of clear water, using a straw. Watch what happens to the bubbles
when they reach the surface of the water.
- Provide unbreakable containers of different
shapes and sizes and a bowl of water. Get your child to try immersing
the containers in the water and watch what happens. Encourage
experimentation. (Remember not to leave young children alone with
water.)
- Find some 'bubbly' music and encourage your
child to dance like a bubble. Let them try growing round and fat,
floating, bouncing, turning, and popping!
