Choose one or two of these ideas to explore
with your child:
- Ask your child to sort their toys into two
groups - those that feel furry and those that feel hard. Then
try sorting the toys in other ways - for example, those with legs
or no legs, wheels or no wheels, those which make a noise or no
noise etc.
- Get your child to try moving like an old-fashioned
clockwork toy, perhaps a dog or a monkey playing cymbals. Encourage
your child to start in a still shape, then pretend to wind them
up and get them to move with jerky movements. They can then gradually
slow down and stop in a still shape again.
- Help your child to learn to share toys with
friends. Encourage taking turns. This takes time and patience,
but it's worth persevering!
- Play a feely game with toys. Collect together
some toys with different attributes eg one which squeaks, one
which is soft and furry, one which has wheels and one which is
hard. Put the toys in a pillowcase and get your child to feel
inside. Encourage them to talk about what they feel. Can they
guess which toy they are feeling, without looking?
