Choose one or two of these ideas to explore
with your child:
Make a collection of things you use on your
hair, for example combs, brushes, shampoo. Talk about why it's
important to look after hair and keep it clean. Teach your child
to comb or brush their hair, developing independence.
If you have a pet, help your child to gently
comb it with you. (Be careful if your pet isn't used to this!)
What can you see in the comb after using it on your pet? Why
do some pets need to be groomed? Discuss why combs used on animals
should not be used on people.
Find some books about hens and cockerels.
Look at the "combs" on top of their heads. Are these combs used
to untangle hair?
Get your child to use a toy rake in the sandpit.
Let them explore first, using the rake in any way he or she likes.
Then try making patterns or shapes in the sand. Does it make a
difference if you use the rake in dry sand or wet sand? Can you
pick up sand with the rake? Or dig a hole with it?
Set a table for a toy tea party, helping
your child to make a place for each toy with a toy knife, fork
and spoon. How many toys are there? How many forks/knives/spoons
will you need?
This activity helps your child's mathematical
development.
You can also do an activity
sheet with your child.
