The Trainees

Lauren Courtney

Lauren went to an all-girls' comprehensive, which she didn't enjoy very much, as she didn't get on with the teachers. Lauren says she only concentrates on things she really wants to do, and so had a tendency to 'switch off' at school. She wants to set up a glamorous 'all girls' plumbing business called Plumb-Hers with her mates. She can't say for sure why she wants to be a plumber other than her friend's dad is one and she thinks it will be 'interesting'. She's looked into apprenticeships but has so far failed to find one.

Quick Facts

Age: 18
Home Town: Welwyn Garden City
Ambition: To be an electrician or an architect

Bricking It Interview

Channel 4: Why do you want to work in the building trade?
Lauren: I want to prove that young, good looking girls can do as well as "Big Strong Boys". I'd like to start my own business and eventually build my own home in Cyprus.

Channel 4: Why should you be on Bricking It?
Lauren: I'm eager, want to learn, am not afraid of hard work. I get on with almost anyone. I'm loud, gorgeous, talk too much, a bit of a bimbo, mad "Redhead with Attitude" (but loveable). It will keep everyone else in good spirits just being with me!

Channel 4: Have you ever worked in the building industry before?
Lauren: Decorated my friend's flat and didn't do too bad (I think!).

Channel 4: What are you hoping to achieve from Bricking It?
Lauren: To gain a basic knowledge in construction and to learn some of the trades, plumbing being the main one.

Channel 4: Is it harder than you expected?
Lauren: I didn't really know what to expect. I found it quite difficult and, at times, slow and frustrating.

Channel 4: Do you think Bricking It is helping you to work with other people?
Lauren: It has shown me that you need good communication skills in construction and you have to be able to work well as a team.

Channel 4: Can you name two things you personally contribute to the team?
Lauren: I'm not sure!

Channel 4: What have you learnt from Bricking It so far?
Lauren: Everything!

Channel 4: What do you think you will do after Bricking It?
Lauren: Hopefully to get an apprenticeship in my chosen trade (plumbing).

Channel 4: And finally...
Lauren: You won't be disappointed. I will put 110% effort into anything you throw at me. Also my mum will love you forever for giving her some peace for 6 months.
