Hannah Lacey
Hannah was top of her class throughout all of her school and college education. She went to Warwick University to study Maths, Statistics and Economics, but dropped out after four months. Since then she has struggled to find a fulfilling role, now working as an admin assistant but the monotony of office work has caused her to re-assess her future. She has always been encouraged to be academic and never really considered manual work - until now. She realises that there is money to be made in the construction industry and would love to prove that women can be just as successful as men.

Looking Back Interview
Channel 4: Did Bricking It live up to your expectations?
Hannah: Yes it did, it certainly lived up to my expectations - but in fact I didn't know what to expect when I first started. We finished the flat which was excellent. In fact my expectations were exceeded, as I didn't know we were going to get full time jobs out of it at the end.
Channel 4: What was the best thing about Bricking It?
Hannah: Seeing everything come together at the end was exciting.
First fix plumbing was good, also building the partition walls before
that. But really it was the seeing the end product come together that
was the high point.
Channel 4: And the worst thing?
Hannah: When we were midway through the second fix plumbing,
getting further behind, deeper into trouble and had missing plumbing
parts. It felt like it was neverending.
Channel 4: What was your high point?
Hannah: Working alongside 9 people I'd never met before who I got on with.
Channel 4: And your low point?
Hannah: Wasn't the long hours, but it was the continuous work.
And then, on occasions, getting shout at by Phil.
Channel 4: What do you think you'll do now?
Hannah: In April I'm starting as a professional plumbing trainee
for a large company. It will mean not working on the tools, but eventually
getting into a management position. When I first left the project,
I took a job in the site canteen just to tide me over before Christmas
– the Construction Manager Andy Carson spotted me and arranged
for me to see one of their electrical companies. So I'm back on the
site working with them until April. It's great.
Channel 4: Any advice on working in construction?
Hannah: Get into it and see if you like it. It's not for everyone, but it's a great industry to work in.
