Hannah was top of her class throughout all of her school and college education. She went to Warwick University to study Maths, Statistics and Economics, but dropped out after four months. Since then she has struggled to find a fulfilling role, now working as an admin assistant but the monotony of office work has caused her to re-assess her future. She has always been encouraged to be academic and never really considered manual work - until now. She realises that there is money to be made in the construction industry and would love to prove that women can be just as successful as men.

Bricking It Interview

Channel 4: Why do you want to work in the building trade?
Hannah: To be active and not stuck in an office. And to be able to build something and see the finished product in the end would be very rewarding.

Channel 4: Why should you be on Bricking It?
Hannah: I am loud, a laugh-a-minute kind of girl who also has a professional side when it comes to working. I love meeting new people, having the chance to learn new skills and am not camera shy.

I am a fun person, would make good TV and seriously have an interest in the what the programme has to offer.

Channel 4: Have you ever worked in the building industry before?
Hannah: Apart from watching Bob the Builder! Seriously, I have always watched my dad around the house trying to do various jobs and a lot of my friend's went into the building trade from school. But my experience runs as far as making towers out of wooden bricks when I was younger.

Channel 4: What are you hoping to achieve from Bricking It?
Hannah: I hope to get an apprenticeship in plumbing. However, the experience of working on a real building site is something I'll take away as well as being part of a good team.

Channel 4: Is it harder than you expected?
Hannah: The experience has certainly been harder than expected. I thought the work would be physically demanding. However, it has been mentally more demanding with the long hours, being told work is not good enough etc.

Channel 4: Do you think Bricking It is helping you to work with other people?
Hannah: Everyone is different on this project so it has certainly helped me work with others, learning how everyone works and what makes them tick. I have been lucky to not only work with others but as a leader of the team, learning how to get the best out of my team.

Channel 4: Can you name two things you personally contribute to the team?
Hannah: Only two...?! I'm a placid pacifist, which has been needed at various times during the project. For example, during Soaps' and Gregory's arguments.

Channel 4: What have you learnt from Bricking It so far?
Hannah: I have learned hands-on skills that I had lost from doing just academic studies previously. My common sense has improved greatly and is much needed! I am learning a practical trade, which is what I want to do. I have also learned good communication skills.

Channel 4: What do you think you will do after Bricking It?
Hannah:
a) Get the flat finished on time
b) Get my plumbing apprenticeship
c) Become qualified and continue working
d) Hopefully own my own business some day
e) Do a part-time degree, relevant to my career - e.g. management.

Channel 4: And finally...
Hannah: I don't know really what else to say. This could be the opportunity I am looking for to help me realise what I want to do with my life.
