Greg found school very difficult and after year 9 was sent to behavioural problem schools until he was 16. He spent a year in a children's home aged 15 and then went to live with his Nan. He now has his own rented accommodation. A few months ago Greg did a semi-residential plastering course at a family-run business in Wales. Over six months he learned how to plaster on the job and would really like to go on and gain an apprenticeship in plastering.

Looking Back Interview

Channel 4: Did Bricking It live up to your expectations?
Greg: I took it as it came. Looking back, I got everything from it I thought I would. There's not one thing I thought 'oh we never did that'.

Channel 4: What was the best thing about Bricking It?
Greg: Meeting Prince Charles, working in St James Palace and going to the £12 million houses. The whole of being on the project was enjoyable. I was so lucky to have been chosen.

Channel 4: And the worst thing?
Greg: I least enjoyed the early starts. Sometimes it also felt like mine and Phil's relationship was different than the relationship he had with the other trainees – he really kept me in check.

Channel 4: What was your high point?
Greg: Looking around the flat at the end when it was all finished and thinking 'we did this'.

Channel 4: And your low point?
Greg: Coming into work late one day and not knowing whether I would be staying until the end of the day or sacked.

Channel 4: What do you think you'll do now?
Greg: I'm on a 3 year apprenticeship with DCP in Wallington. They do the whole range of plasterboarding and wet plastering. I sat and thought about it after I got the offer and thought about the interview – the boss had been interested in having a real conversation with me – it was about what I could offer them and what they could offer me. I realised that working for them would be the next big step in my life.

Channel 4: Any advice on working in construction?
Greg: Make sure that your heart is in it. Don't think you are just going to be making lots of money, you have to wait ages before you make any good money. So, like I say, don't do it if you don't love the job.

Channel 4: And finally…
Greg: I thank God this project happened to me and that I made it through to the end.
