How was Bricking It for you?
I really enjoyed being able to give something back, teaching the kids. It made me think I might get involved in some kind of teaching at some stage, which is something I'd never considered before. I was really surprised how attached I got to the kids.
What was the best thing about Bricking It?
I most enjoyed watching the trainees faces at the end when they realised they'd done it all. Basically the whole job was great, it's so different from a normal job where things are quiet and everything is always where you left it at the end of the day. Having the film crew, mixing with the youngsters, it all being busy and sometime chaotic was very different from the norm!
And the worst thing?
Doing the wallpaper workshop with them was a nightmare. They were all playing up. It was last thing on a Friday, they were all tired. At the beginning it was quite funny, they were all talking over me, then it just got out of hand and was very frustrating.
Can anyone make it in the construction industry, or does it take a certain type of person?
Any of the team I worked with could make it in the industry, I don't think it takes a certain type of person, as long as someone is prepared to work hard and put the effort in, they can do it.
What did Bricking It tell you about young people today?
As I'm only 6/7 years older than them it didn't teach me anything I didn't already know, but it did make me realise how much I've grown up in comparison!
What was your high point?
The high point was seeing their faces at the end! Also seeing Lauren put the effort in and really work.
And your low point?
The low point for me was when Soaps left – I'd only just started so didn't know how things had been going before then, but she worked well for me.
And finally…
I'd do it again tomorrow, not just because of the cameras but because
of the kids. It was rewarding teaching them, not only painting and
decorating but giving them advice about work in general. It's nice
to think they may have been able to take a little bit of what I was
saying away with them.
