Bricking It Interview

Why did you want to be a painter and decorator?
I always liked working with my hands, enjoyed art at school, knew someone who was a specialist decorator... so it seemed like an obvious choice.

What's the best job you've ever worked on?
Every job has different qualities. However, I particularly enjoyed decorating a £2.3 million house in Essex with open-minded customers and a riverside apartment in London.

What do you do?
All aspects of basic decorating and specialist finishes, ie working with glazers and different materials to see what different effects I can come up with.

What are your hours / wages like?
Generally I work 9 to 5. However, if I have a priced job I may work longer. Wages depend on experience, your average apprentice should expect to earn between £100 and £250 per week.

What qualifications do you have?
I have:

  • NVQ level 1 + 2
  • Advanced NVQ level 3
  • City and Guilds in Interiors Decorating and Design

What's your advice to would-be apprentices?
To get your basic qualifications - then work hard and enjoy it!
