Dan damages some cabling

Dan has been struggling from the start but now he's cost the team some serious money.

Dan is struggling again. Following his 'time out' in home town Bath, he has failed to prove himself to Dr Phil and the trainees.

He remains unable or unwilling to master even the most rudimentary on-site skills. Although aware of the recent death of Dan's mother, the trainees believe that he is the weakest link in the team, and feel that his ineffectiveness is holding them back.

With the plaster-boarding underway, Dan's pace is sluggish at best. But time is particularly critical now. With Ricky now dismissed from the project the team is down to 9 men, and is falling behind schedule.

Zac's appoints himself to the role of team motivator and claims that Dan is lacking energy and enthusiasm. "I feel I have to go over there and say come on move your arse. I want other people to feel like I feel."

When Dan loses tools and repeatedly plasterboard by cutting it to the wrong size, Dr Phil starts to lose his patience.

Although Dan's days seems numbered, he seems in confident mood, and seems to be applying himself to his task. "I think I work better on my own," he claims. But even as he talks to the camera he damages a sheet of plasterboard.

Dan's fate is finally sealed when he drills 5 holes through communications wiring. This is a dire mistake, as the expensive wires will need to be replaced, and part of the ceiling will be taken down in the process.

The mistake, spotted by a livid Dr Phil, sets the project back a week and costs the trainees £1,700.

The trainees react with shock at the scale of Dan's error, and elation that he may no longer continue on the project. "What a doughnut," says Zac looking at the damaged wiring. "Doughnut isn't the word, bruv," concurs Greg Males.

Dr Phil decides that it's time for Dan to leave the project. "You've got a lot of guts for giving this a try," he tells Dan, but Dan is despondent: "I didn't give it a try. I should've stayed home".

The remaining eight trainees are confident they'll do well now Dan has gone, but Dr Phil isn't so sure. "Dan has been the excuse they needed. They always blamed Dan when things went wrong. What are they going to hide behind now?"
