Greg Santos Fired
Greg is fired
Greg's luck runs out
Greg's been late… and late… and late… and has finally run out of warnings.

Greg Santos may claim "I'm not really a morning person" but Dr Phil is tired of his excuses. To aggravate matters further Greg's is often required to help with the care of his baby brother.

Greg says he needs time to get used to the early starts, but by week 13 Greg already has a verbal and written warning for his lateness.

When Greg is late for the 6th time, Dr Phil calls him to his office. "I am trying to get in on time," claims Greg. "I'm not making myself be late". But this is not good enough for Dr Phil, who is keen to give the trainees a taste of life in the real world. "No employer would put up with that. Why shouldn't I do the same?"

In the same week Greg is 15 minutes late again. Although he at times calls in to say he's going to be late, it's not washing with Dr Phil. Back in the office, Dr Phil spells out the precariousness of his position. "Late again and you're off the project."

Greg feel victimised by Dr Phil, and is beginning to lose heart. "I keep picking myself up. He keeps bringing me back down. It's getting boring."

But Greg's facing aggravation on-site too. There have been complaints about his attitude, but he refuses to acknowledge that there's a problem. "That's the way I am," he says. "I haven't got an attitude problem. I know that for a fact."

Before long, Greg is late again, but this time there seems to be a legitimate reason. His Mum isn't well, and he's stayed behind later at home to check she is OK. For Greg it's a simple case of priorities. "I ain't looking to get kicked out. Sometimes family problems do come before work." A proud Greg hasn't told Phil the full details of why he is late.

Dr Phil calls a meeting with all the trainees. He needs to show that rules are rules, and having told Greg he was on his last warning - Dr Phil tells it to him straight. "You're off the project, there's no more chances."

Greg has now lost the trainees an accumulated total of £5,000 from their Completion Bonus, but their response to his dismissal is mixed. Zac is sympathetic. "It's a shame. He needed this, but like he says it's just one of those things" David is more definite. "It had to be done."

When Dr Phil and Greg have a final meeting they seem to disagree on a philosophical point. "You steer your destiny," Dr Phil claims. But despondent Greg feels victimised by his fate. "I steer my destiny but then things happen to me. My life is funny, trust me. Half my life is a joke."

"There's nothing to do but laugh. I hide myself under a smile, but under that is bare anger." Determined to impart some useful advice Dr Phil perseveres with his counsel, but Greg isn't' in the mood to listen. "I'm out. I'm finished. That's the end of it."
