As the apartment begins to take shape, it's walls, floors and closing up...
The Work
Weeks 7 to 9
Finally, the Bricking It apartment is starting to look liveable... er, well, just about!
The plasterer and the trainees finish 'closing-up'. The walls are now double-sided and the First Fix pipes and cables are concealed inside.
Taping and Jointing begins. The gaps between the sheets of plasterboard are filled and sanded to give a perfectly smooth finish.
Next the carpentry work gets underway, with the fitting of the acoustic floor. This is for sound insulation, and is made from chipboard sheets backed with foam.
The flat is taking shape now. The spaghetti junction of cables and pipes is replaced with smooth walls. A coat of watered down paint, a 'mist coat', is applied to seal the plaster.
The First Fix is completed, and a key milestone is reached. The Second Fix can begin.
