Learning Outcomes
The programmes explore the historical context that allowed and drove explorers such as Belzoni to strip the tombs of Ancient Egypt and claim the monuments as their own in their passion for Egyptology. This gives a strong basis for debate amongst the children to consider the ever-present dichotomy between moral ethics and the desire to further mankind’s knowledge and understanding of the world.
Sarah’s passion for bringing about the recognition of her husband’s achievement where others had taken the credit for his work subtly suggests that maybe museums and historical texts do not always tell us the whole story.
