Aims


 

This history series aims to help pupils develop:

(a) chronological awareness

  • placing events, people and changes in the medieval period within a chronological framework, noting key dates
  • describing and explaining important historical concepts associated with the Norman period

(b) range and depth of historical knowledge and understanding

  • identifying and analysing the characteristic features of medieval society
  • describing and explaining reasons for and results of some of the historical events and changes in the medieval world
  • developing overviews of the main events and changes both within and across periods by making links between the content in different study units and between Irish, British, European and world history
  • assessing the significance of the main events, people and changes studied

(c) interpretations of history

  • considering how and why some historical events, people and changes have been interpreted differently
  • analysing and evaluating sources and interpretations in their historical context
