As a result of viewing this programme, pupils should:

• appreciate that although he was King, James lacked power
• develop insights into some of the reasons why life in Scotland was dangerous for James
• begin to understand James' character, his interests, abilities and worries
• begin to appreciate what life was like in late sixteenth-century Scotland
• realise that Scotland was ruled by a regent
