The Russian Revolution
http://www.barnsdle.demon.co.uk/russ/rusrev.html
This site is a really useful collection of annotated links to other sites relating to the Russian Revolution. It is more suitable for the GCSE and A Level student but many of the sites linked are suited to KS3 use.
The Royal Martyrs of Russia
http://home.rmci.net/fr-d-serfes/orthodox/royal/
A site with a pretty clear agenda, but the kind of resource for which the Internet is so valuable. All of the Romanovs are presented as slaughtered innocents. This makes it ideal for an interpretation to be challenged in the interests of balance.
Burying the Tsar and his family
http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/despatches/newsid_33000/33839.stm
This is a BBC News report on the controversy in 1997 over the supposed location of the remains of the royal family and the complications of burying an abdicated Tsar. It is a fascinating insight into the way the past still haunts the present.
Tsar for a Day
http://www.wolfe.net/~mfbaehr/mikhail.html
his site tells the wonderfully odd story of the Tsar’s cousin Mikhail Romanov, Tsar for one day after Tsar Nicholas abdicated. It is really about the context of the abdication and contains some nice accessible stories about this period.
Photographs of the Russian Empire
http://cmp1.ucr.edu/exhibitions/russia/russia.html
This is another example of the kind of site the Internet is good at. It is a collection of photographs of Imperial Russia from the photographic archives of the University of California Riverside. It is ideal for literally giving a picture of Russia in the period 1890-1920.
Anastasia, an Internet Adventure
http://www.lostsecrets.com/
This is an interactive game, with users being asked to search for the lost treasures of the Tsar after the execution of the royal family by the Bolsheviks. Students should pick up quite a lot of useful information and understanding along the way!
