There are four countries around the Pacific Rim of Asia which are said to have ‘tiger economies’.

  1. Name all four.

Samsung is a successful firm that has contributed to South Korea’s reputation as a ‘tiger economy’.

  1. Give as many examples as you can of things that Samsung does.
  2. Where does it operate?
  3. Why has it been so successful? Think about when and how the company was set up, its production methods, its workforce, where it sells its products, how much they cost, and what kind of reputation they have.

Activity 3

Life within the Corporation

  1. Are the two young workers in the programme lucky to be working for the Samsung Corporation? Would you like to join them?
  2. Write a letter to a friend looking for work saying either why being a Samsung worker is great, or why they should look for something else despite the attractions.
