Sc 2/1: Ext Shop
Luis is outside the shop relaxing in a deck chair.
Tía María keeps coming in and out of the door. She never stays still. She keeps coming in and out of the shop with a brush.
Luis: Hello.
¡Hola!
Tía María: Hello. Good morning.
¡Hola! Buenos días.
Luis: How are you?
¿Qué tal?
Tía María: Fine.
Bien.
Luis: What are you doing?
¿Qué haces?
Tía María: Nothing.
Nada.
She keeps moving things.
Luis: What are you doing?
¿Qué haces?
Tía María: I'm making the shop tidy.
Ordeno la tienda.
Luis gets out of the chair. Tía María comes out with a feather duster.
Luis: Stop! Stop it!
¡Para! ¡Para ya!
Luis: But I like my shop like this.
Pero me gusta mi tienda así.
Tía María: What sort of shop is this?
Pero, ¿qué clase de tienda es?
Luis: It's my shop. La Tienda de Luis.
Es mi tienda. La tienda de Luis.
He storms off inside followed by Tía María.
Sc 2/2: Int Shop
The two of them inside.
Tía María: But what do you sell in the shop?
Sí, pero, ¿qué vendes en la tienda?
Tía María: Where are your customers?
¿Dónde están tus clientes?
Luis shrugs.
Tía María: How many customers today?
¿Cuántos clientes hoy?
10, 11, 12, ..., 20?
¿Diez, once, doce, veinte?
Luis: None.
Cero.
Tía María: There is a problem.
Hay un problema.
We have to make the shop more attractive.
Tenemos que hacer la tienda más atractiva.
With a more attractive shop there are more customers.
Con una tienda más atractiva hay más clientes.
With more customers there is more money.
Con más clientes hay más dinero.
Luis: Remember. You are the assistant. I am the boss.
Tía María, recuerda, tú eres la ayudante, yo soy el jefe.
Tía María makes a face.
Sc 2/3: Int The shop later that day
The children arrive at the shop. Luis and Tía María are sitting at opposite ends of the counter ignoring each other.
Children: Hello!
¡Hola!
Tía María: Hello Luis.
¡Hola, Luis!
Luis: Hello.
¡Hola!
Mateo: Hello Aunt María.
¡Hola, Tía María.
Tía María: Hello.
¡Hola!
Cristina: What's going on?
¿Qué pasa?
Luis and Tía María (together): Nothing.
Nada.
Cristina: No – nothing at all!
No. ¡Nada, no!
Almudena: Something IS going on.
Sí pasa algo.
Come on. Tell us.
Venga. Contadnos.
Mateo: What’s going on?
¿Qué pasa?
Luis: Come on.
Vamos. Venid conmigo.
Three of the children go out to hear Luis’ side of the story.
Sc 2/4 Int and Ext Shop
One group of children are with Luis, the other group with Tía María.
Luis: I’m fed up.
Estoy harto.
I am the boss. She is my assistant, not the boss.
Yo soy el jefe. Ella es mi ayudante, no la jefa.
Tía María: My nephew is stupid.
Mi sobrino es tonto.
Luis: I like my shop like this.
Me gusta mi tienda así.
Sc 2/5: The main streets in Oviedo
Caption 1: Ven y compra
Come and buy.
Luis: Yes, with more advertising there will be more customers.
Sí, con más publicidad hay más clientes.
Luis puts on a sandwich board. On one side it says ‘La Tienda de Luis’. On the other side it says ‘Ven y compra en la tienda de Luis’ – ‘Come and buy at La tienda de Luis’.
We see an animation of Luis with the sandwich board.
We see Luis in the centre of Oviedo trying to get the attention of shoppers and passers-by.
Sc 2/6 Int Shop
Luis returns with the sandwich board.
Luis: This isn’t working.
Esto no funciona.
Luis looks in the till. It’s empty.
Luis: There is no money.
No hay dinero.
Luis puts down the placards.
Tía María looks perplexed.
Sc 2/7: Int The Shop
A customer arrives at the shop. Both Luis and Tía María are very surprised.
Both: A customer!
¡Un cliente!
The young woman looks around.
Customer: Hello.
¡Hola!
Tía María: Hello. Good afternoon.
¡Hola! Buenas tardes.
Luis: Good afternoon.
Buenas tardes.
Customer: Good afternoon.
Buenas tardes.
Luis: Can I help you?
¿Qué desea?
Caption: ¿Qué desea?
The customer turns around to the other side.
Tía María: Can I help you?
¿Qué desea?
Both Luis and Tía María stare at the person.
Customer: Just looking, thank you.
Sólo quiero mirar, gracias.
The customer keeps looking around the shop.
Luis: What can I get you?
¿Qué desea?
Customer: Just looking, thank you.
Sólo quiero mirar, gracias.
There is an uncomfortable silence. Feeling badgered by too much attention, the customer leaves.
Customer: Goodbye.
Adiós.
Caption: Adiós.
The customer rushes away.
Tía María: You are to blame!
¡Es tu culpa!
Luis: No, you are to blame!
No, ¡es tu culpa!
Tía María: No, you are to blame!

Tía María shrugs.

Animation of Luis looking angry.

Luis goes and gets a suitcase.
Luis: Right.
Vale.
Tía María: What are you doing Luis?
¿Qué haces Luis?
Luis: Nothing.
Nada.
Tía María: What do you mean, nothing? What are you doing?
¿Cómo que nada? ¿Qué haces?
Luis: You are going home.
Tú te vas a casa.
Luis: I am putting your clothes in your suitcase.
Pongo tu ropa en tu maleta.
He holds up various items of clothing and stuffs them in the suitcase.
Luis: An orange jersey, a red dress, blue trousers, a purple skirt, blue shoes and your hat.
Un jersey naranja, un vestido rojo, unos pantalones azules, una falda morada, unos zapatos azules y tu sombrero.
Luis gestures in disbelief as he bundles Tía María’s clothes into her suitcase.
Tía María: But why?
Pero, ¿por qué?
Luis: Because you are going today.
Porque te vas hoy.
Tía María: I am your assistant.
Soy la ayudante.
Luis: I am the boss.
Yo soy el jefe.
It is my shop. I like my shop like this.
Es mi tienda. Me gusta mi tienda así.
Luis shoves the suitcase into Tía María’s hands.
Sc 2/10: The children at home talking about their clothes.
Caption: Mi ropa
My clothes.
Almudena: Hello! I’m Almudena and this is my bedroom. This is my wardrobe. Here are my clothes. Right now I’m wearing jeans and a white T-shirt.
¡Hola! Soy Almudena y ésta es mi habitación. Éste es mi armario. Aquí está mi ropa. Ahora llevo pantalones vaqueros y una camiseta blanca.
Alberto: Hello. I’m Alberto. This is my favourite T-shirt – it’s white and dark blue striped.
¡Hola! Soy Alberto. Ésta es mi camiseta favorita, es de rayas blancas y azul oscuro.
Cristina: In winter it’s cold and I wear a coat, scarf and a hat. But now it is summer and I am wearing shorts and a t-shirt.
En invierno hace frío y llevo abrigo, bufanda y gorro. Pero ahora es verano y llevo pantalones cortos y una camiseta.
María: Hello! This is my bedroom. These are my clothes. I like skirts, T-shirts and this jumper but I don’t like these black trousers.
¡Hola! Ésta es mi habitación. Ésta es mi ropa. Me gustan las faldas, las camisetas y este jersey, pero no me gusta este pantalon negro.
Mateo: This is my blue surfer’s T-shirt. These are my red shorts.
Ésta es mi camiseta azul, surfera. Éstos son mis pantalones cortos, rojos.
Almudena: I’m wearing a checked dress. It’s my favourite dress.
Ahora llevo un vestido de cuadros. Es mi vestido favorito.
She gives a twirl.
Sc 2/11: Ext A park bench
Caption: Necesito un uniforme
I need a uniform.
Three of the children meet up with Luis.
Mateo: Hi Luis.
¡Hola, Luis!
Alberto: Where is Aunt María?
¿Dónde está Tía María?
Luis: I’ve had enough of Tía María.
Estoy harto de tía Tía María.
Cristina: What’s the matter?
¿Qué pasa?
Luis: She’s unbearable.
Es insoportable.
Luis: We’re going shopping. I need a uniform.
Vamos de compras. Necesito un uniforme.
They are business-like and smart.
Es serio y elegante.
Alberto: That’s true.
Sí, es verdad.
Luis: Let’s go kids. Let’s go to the shops.

Sc 2/12: Int A Shopping Mall
Luis and the children are looking around a department store.
Assistant (holding up a jacket): Jackets.
Chaquetas.
Assistant (holding up a jumper): Jumpers.
Jerseys.
Assistant (holding up a pair of jeans): Jeans.
Vaqueros.
Assistant (holding up a pair of trousers): Trousers.
Pantalones.
Assistant (in the shoe section): Shoes. Shoes. Shoes.
Zapatos. Zapatos. Zapatos.
The assistant comes over to Luis and the children.
Assistant: Good day.
Buenos días.
Can I help you?
¿Qué desea?
Luis: Good day.
Buenos días.
I need a uniform for my new shop.
Necesito un uniforme para mi tienda nueva.
Assistant: For a uniform – a yellow shirt?
Para uniforme, ¿una camisa amarilla?
Luis (shaking his head): No.

Assistant: Pink?
¿Rosa?
Luis (shaking his head): No.

Assistant: A green shirt?
¿Una camisa verde?
Luis (shaking his head): No.

Assistant: A red shirt?

Luis (pointing to his shirt): No. I’ve got a red shirt. Something different.
No, tengo una camisa roja. Algo diferente.
Assistant: A brown shirt?

Luis (shaking his head): No.

Assistant looks up at a dummy with a blue shirt.
Assistant: And blue?
¿Y azul?
Luis (looking at the kids): A blue shirt. That’s perfect.
Una camisa azul. Perfecto.
Assistant: What size do you need?
¿Qué talla necesita?
Luis: Big for me and a small size for Tía María.
Una grande para mí y una pequeña para Tía María.
Assistant: Very good. Do you need anything else?
Muy bien. ¿Necesita algo más?
Luis: Yes, two neckties.
Sí, dos corbatas.
Assistant: We have black ties to go with a blue shirt.
Para una camisa azul hay corbatas de color negro.
Luis (shaking his head): No.
No.
Assistant: Red?
¿Rojo?
Luis (shaking his head): No.
No.
Luis (pointing to a tie): That one is perfect for me.
Ésta es perfecta para mí.
And that one is perfect for Tía María.
Y ésta es perfecta para Tía María.
At the till, the assistant wraps up the purchases.
Assistant: Two neckties. Two shirts.
Dos corbatas. Dos camisas.
Luis hands over the money.
Assistant: Thank you.
Gracias.
Luis: Thank you very much.
Muchas gracias.
Luis and children: Bye.
Hasta luego.
Sc 2/13: Ext Another Shop.
Luis looks in the window of a shop specialising in uniforms.
Luis: Uniforms.
Uniformes.
We see Luis through the window trying on an apron that has the words ‘La tienda de Luis’ on.
Luis: Yes that’s it. It’s perfect.
Ahora sí. Es perfecto.
Sc 2/14: Int La Tienda.
Tía María is sitting on her suitcase all packed up. She looks very down in the mouth.
Luis and the children arrive.
Tía María: At last, Luis! It is very late.
¡Por fin, Luis! Es muy tarde.
She looks at the clock.
Luis: Hello, Tía María!
¡Hola, Tía María!
What are you doing?
Pero, ¿qué haces?
Tía María: I’m going home. I want to say goodbye.
Voy a casa. Quiero despedirme. Adiós.
Luis: Don’t go. I’m sorry.
¡Tía Tía María, lo siento!
You are a good assistant.
Eres una buena ayudante.
Look. I have the uniforms.
Mira, tengo los uniformes.
Tía María: The uniforms?
¿Los uniformes?
Luis: Yes, the uniforms.
Sí, los uniformes.
Here they are.

Do you want to be my assistant?

Tía María: Oh, yes. Thank you.

Luis: This is your uniform. It is very smart.

They strike up various poses.
