Helene Morgan - Kite maker

Curriculum Links

Language – Kites make a perfect topic for creative writing, especially poetry – there are of course many existing poems on the subject which can be used as a stimulus.

Science – Flight and wind power. Kites, windsocks, gliders, birds, Benjamin Franklin’s discoveries. This is dependent on curriculum requirements, age and ability. Links well with Willard Wigan producing a microfilm glider, see the notes for Handmade 2.

Music/Dance - Create music and/or dance to reflect stillness, breeze, strong wind, gales and their effect on the movement of a kite.

History - Several excellent websites listed in the links section of these notes are suitable for children to research the various uses of kites from many different perspectives, in different parts of the world and at different periods.
