George Constable - glass sculptor

Curriculum Links

Science – This will depend on age and ability but there are obvious links with prisms, understanding of convex and concave, light, lenses, manufacture of glass, comparison with other materials.

History – A specific period in the history of glass might be a possible research topic: glass as an indication of wealth, the Window Tax, Venetian glass makers, the discovery of microscopes. Such projects would, of course, be more appropriate for older children.

Maths – An excellent stimulus for introducing or reinforcing recognition and understanding of 2D and 3D shapes at any age.
