George Constable - glass sculptor
Ideas To Try
- Show the children slides or photographs of stained glass windows.
- Give the children the opportunity to create their own stained glass windows – a website with clear instructions on doing this is given in the links section. This activity can be adapted according to the age and ability of the children.
- Consider with the children the demands of 2D and 3D works of art and offer examples, for instance, look at a chair in the classroom and consider Van Gogh’s painting of a chair.
- Give the children the opportunity of creating a 3D sculpture in plasticine or clay from observation. Then ask them to create a painting or drawing of the same subject. Discuss their response to the two experiences.
- Glass, of course, is a difficult medium to use in school. Ruth Spaak, a West Midlands artist who specializes in art forms using glass, offers workshops to schools. See the links section for the relevant websites.
