The Coastal Environment

Activities

  • A pyramid of numbers shows how plants and animals depend on each other for food, with many small creatures, less medium-sized creatures and only a few large predators. Ask children to describe the coral reef community using a pyramid diagram. What happens when the pyramid collapses and how can managing the reef help this fragile environment?

  • How is the coastline changing? Make a series of pictures to show some of the effects of waves on the coast.
  • Make a ‘Care for Crocodiles’ poster to encourage the conservation of this endangered species.
