Activities
Before viewing
- Pupils talk about any castles they have visited. They comment on what helped make them safe places and whether they'd be comfortable to live in.
After viewing
- Pupils find Dundee (for Claypotts Castle) and Edinburgh in their atlases and add them to their maps.
- Pupils discuss the statement 'Some wealthy people wanted to live more comfortable lives. How do we know?' They write one or two sentences about the evidence they have observed.
- Pupils work in pairs to discuss how James should have responded to news of his mother's execution. One pupil in each pair should gather all the arguments for action against England, the other should gather arguments against action. A selected pair presents their arguments to the class.
- Pupils access the website http://www.jesus-is-lord.com/kinginde.htm to find out more about this Scottish Protestant leader who urged Elizabeth to deal severely with Mary.
