Act Without Words 2

Setting

The text identifies the acting area as 'a low and narrow platform at back of stage, violently lit in its entire length, the rest of the stage being in darkness', suggesting the endlessness and permanence of a 'frieze effect'.

The nondescript setting offers nothing that could distract from the mime's portrayal of the monotony of the nature of human existence. The participants are offered no respite from being exposed to the hard, searing light, the framing separating them from the ever-present threat of extinction reflected by the surrounding eternal darkness.

The platform's right-centre-left acting stations are represented, in the screen version, by three separate, adjacent panels.
