The Internet contains a wealth of sites dedicated to some aspects of the topics covered in this programme. Some are of limited use, but a number are of great value to history teachers for the:
- depth of information they contain
- range of insights published in them
- ability to communicate with experts and enthusiasts
- ability to access original archive material
- potential to use the sites as the basis of really stimulating and imaginative activities
The following sites are recommended because they meet at least some of the criteria listed above.

A very large site that contains a wealth of information about the activities of the UNO, including peacekeeping. There is a particularly useful annexe of statistical information on peacekeeping commitments.
The Gulf War
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/gulf/
An extremely impressive and comprehensive site covering every conceivable aspect of the Gulf War. There is a large section on weapons and technology. The originator is a US organisation sponsored by a range of American media organisations.

New York Times Special – Kosovo
http://www.nytimes.com/learning/general/specials/kosovo/
Part of the newspaper’s education output, this site gives a very comprehensive overview of the Kosovo conflict. Includes the origins of the conflict, a chronology of recent events and interviews with major figures involved.
Smart weapons
http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/smart/index.html
A site created by military scientists which is meant to list and describe smart weapons, but gets a bit too excited about them. The front page looks intimidating with a whirl of codes and figures, but click on a general category and a readable description appears.
