Curing the Incurable

Aims

To show how:

  • A relatively small discovery about the properties of a particular cell can lead to new technologies that will potentially benefit all humankind.
  • Scientific endeavour can be driven by the potential to make huge commercial profits.
  • Volunteers in human medical trials are likely to be motivated by potential improvements in their own quality of life.
  • Scientists can disagree over the safety of medical trials using human subjects.
  • Successful trials with animals are viewed as an essential precursor to trials with people.
