Aims
To show how:
- Advances in scientific knowledge and understanding open the doors to useful applications and also to potential misuse of those advances.
- Living organisms can pose major threats to individual lives and to wider society.
- At the molecular level, living processes can be harnessed to give both beneficial and harmful outcomes.
- A few individuals, organisations and states have an interest in the development of new forms of weaponry, but most others have a strong interest in preventing such developments taking place.
- New information which may assist in the development of biological weapons can arise from seemingly unrelated areas of research.
