Before Viewing

  • Use an atlas to locate the River Usk. Find its source in the Brecon Beacons and the mouth at Newport.
  • Ask the children how they think rivers start. How might the river change as it flows from source to mouth?
  • Explain that rivers always flow downhill.

After Viewing

  • Find out about a local river, use maps, books and brochures.
  • Where is the source? Follow the river’s journey, where does it flow?
  • Discuss the importance of rivers both throughout history and in our lives today.
