To show how:
- Scientific techniques can be applied to criminal investigations.
- Multi-disciplinary approaches are valuable in many scientific and forensic investigations.
- Forensic techniques are more useful in some situations than in others.
- The evidence of witnesses may, for a variety of reasons, be unreliable.
- Legal proceedings do not always result in the drawing of appropriate conclusions from the available evidence.
