Activity 1: Limestone Landscapes

Use the photographs and text to compile your own set of examples of important carboniferous limestone landforms from the Malham area, using the headings below for each one:

1. Name of example.

2. Brief description.

3. Brief explanation of how it formed.

Activity 2: Welsh Slate

Look at an atlas and the map from the television programme, reproduced below, which shows where slate from one Welsh quarry ended up. Further information can be found in these Net Notes and from the website:

Answer the following questions:

1. To what countries was slate sold?

2. How was the slate transported from the quarry to its final destination?

3. Why were slate roofs not wanted in some countries?
