Programme Outline

This programme shows how artists could take an ordinary experience and make it beautiful. Turner’s dramatic picture of Calais Pier: an English Packet Arriving shows us a lot about how life was lived 200 years ago and uses dramatic detail and local colour to stimulate us to imagine exactly what it would have been like to be there.
