The Czech Republic

Programme Outline

Two children, a boy and a girl, visit different parts of the Czech Republic, taking with them an animated lion who contributes further information and comment. We learn that the majority of Czech people live in towns and cities, often in tower blocks. We visit the Giant Mountains, the ancient town of Cesky Krumlov with its many castles, and the capital city, Prague. The children discuss ecological issues such as excessive car use and acid rain, and talk about favourite foods and pastimes. We learn that the Czech Republic and Slovakia were, until recently, a single country, and about the iron curtain, which in the past prevented Czech people from travelling to other countries.
