To make students aware of:

  • the development and use of design briefs, specifications and criteria in relation to product development
  • the visual and tactile qualities of materials
  • the fact that designing is not a linear exercise but is iterative - the traditional design cycle being just one of many methods for successful designing
  • the way in which design solutions are open to both praise and criticism
