Greece

Programme Outline

The programme begins with some stereotypical views about Greece. Then Maria, an 11-year-old girl from Athens, presents some essential information about the Greek people and their culture. Maria and two boys, Ioannis and Giorgios, now act as guides to different regions of Greece. Maria introduces us to her city, Athens, and to her own home. She also, via the internet, gives us some information about some of the most significant buildings, playwrights, philosophers, scientists and artists of Ancient Greece. Giorgios talks about modern Greek poets and compares ancient Olympia and its games with present-day Olympia and the modern Olympic Games. Ioannis tells us about his island, Tinos, and talks about the importance of Christianity in Greece. The programme ends with each child telling us what Greece means to them.
