England This programme links to Sc1: Scientific Enquiry – Ideas and Evidence in Science
- How scientific ideas are presented, evaluated and disseminated (Ideas and Evidence 1a).
- How scientific controversies can arise from different ways of interpreting empirical evidence (Ideas and Evidence 1b).
- Ways in which scientific work may be affected by the contexts in which it takes place and how the contexts may affect whether or not the ideas are accepted (Ideas and Evidence 1c).
- To consider the power and limitations of science in addressing questions and the ethical issues involved (Ideas and Evidence 1d).
Wales This programme links to Scientific Enquiry - 1. The Nature of Science; 2. Communication in Science.
- How scientific ideas are presented, evaluated and disseminated (1.1, 2.1).
- How scientific controversies can arise from different ways of interpreting empirical evidence (1.4).
- Ways in which scientific work may be affected by the contexts in which it takes place and how the contexts may affect whether or not the ideas are accepted (1.5).
- To consider the power and limitations of science in addressing questions and the ethical issues involved (1.5).
Northern Ireland Supports the Key Stage 4 Programme of Study for Science in Northern Ireland. The series contains resource material relevant to the NI curriculum guidance on the Application of Science and on the Nature of Science. The programmes will:
- Assist pupils in developing their experimental and investigative skills (planning, carrying out, presenting and interpreting results).
- Promote a greater understanding of living organisms and life processes including the study of genetics, selection, reproduction, etc.
- Help pupils to investigate and experiment with materials and their uses; including chemical reactions, electronic structure and chemical formulae, kinetic theory, etc.
- Support pupils' understanding of physical processes, energy and forces; including electricity and magnetism, circuits, sound light and waves, the electromagnetic spectrum, the Earth in Space, etc.
Scotland The programmes will be useful for supporting Knowledge and Understanding and Investigation at Standard Grade Science and Standard Grade Biology, Physics and Chemistry. They will also be useful for aspects of the Higher Still courses in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
