Aims

 

  • To know about and understand the causes and nature of migration in and out of Britain since 1945 and within its wider context.
  • To know about and appreciate the diverse contributions made by different ethnic groups to British society.
  • To use terms and concepts such as 'citizenship', 'race', 'black', 'ethnic', 'discrimination', 'nationality', 'fascism' and 'racism' appropriately and in an informed way.
  • To use films, documentaries and newsreels critically and in their historical context.
  • To identify and analyse attitudes towards ethnic minorities and 'black' people as expressed in the mass media and in legislation;
  • To appreciate the diverse experiences of Britain's ethnic minorities.
  • To know about and appreciate the significance of the role of individual 'black' people within British society.
