The Grays School Media Arts College

The Grays School Media Arts College (TGSMAC) is a 1000 student, 11-16 Foundation, mixed comprehensive school in the unitary authority of Thurrock. The student population reflects the neighbourhood it serves containing an 11% ethnic population, a total of 20 first languages and an SEN register of 35%.

Thurrock is a relatively poor borough. TGSMAC serves several wards of particular deprivation and social exclusion. Originally it was designated a social priority school. Despite this, the school has undergone three successful Ofsted Inspections. Although historically not an academic school, examination results continue to improve; a 5% A*-C increase in this year's GCSE examinations.

TGSMAC is a popular school for a variety of both curricular and extra-curricular reasons. TGSMAC has a new and exciting future; from being school allocated challenging circumstances money in 1999, it has recently been named the 34th most improved school winning a 'National Achievement Award'.

In September 2004 TGSMAC was awarded Specialist College status in Media Arts. We are very excited about the future prospects for the school.
