This course has been designed from a Media Studies perspective and has a holistic approach. It can be summed up by a concept map which sees all media (including the news) as involved in a circuit of meaning. The course is designed for students aged 14-19 who are studying English, Media Studies, Citizenship and related subjects.

Some aspects of the course may not be relevant to your particular syllabus or learning environment, or may be too advanced for your target group. Notes and worksheets are downloadable and editable. No teacher is expected to do all of the tasks in each unit; use professional judgement to select and edit the most appropriate tasks for your needs.

This course can also fulfil a role in your continuing professional development. If you are not a Media Studies specialist it offers a stimulating way to understand the distinctive combination of theory and practice of the subject. Both students and teachers can use their expertise to learn what is omitted from media textbooks.
