The programme editor's role| involves liaising with reporters, producers, correspondents and technicians in order to decide how resources should be allocated, how a story will be done, and where cameras should be sent.
Charlie Beckett is one of several programme editors who works according to a rota. He has a planning day in the newsroom before leading the programme editorially the following day. On the day of the broadcast, he has to come in at 7:00 to take his team through the day, and does not leave until the cameras are switched off and he has had a quick chat with his co-workers.
