In the last decade, newsrooms around the country have been digital benefits| news production. Previously, journalists would have to spend a lot of time waiting for a tape if there were other people who wanted to use it. Digital technology has also changed the type of employees needed, people whose sole job it was to load and play out video cassettes are no longer necessary.
Sending video by satellite| is still the only way of doing a live feed real time from overseas, but broadband is increasingly used when sending pre-recorded footage to the studio. Because of the difference in cost, Channel 4 News will start to use the internet for live feeds as soon as broadband speeds allow it.
Many emerging newsroom technologies| are not just changing how the news is produced but also how it is being consumed. Digital video-on-demand and internet web casting both permit the viewer to choose which stories they want to watch, and are likely to have an impact on how journalists think about their work in the future.
