Presenters on Channel 4 News are working journalists and produce reports in addition to their on-screen work. Jon Snow has recently returned from New Orleans from where he filed a number of reports about the devastating impact of Hurricane Katrina.
Jon describes a typical day|, arriving on his bike in time for the morning meeting, going out around lunchtime, often to do something completely different. Today he is judging the Guardian Student Media Awards. In the afternoon there are often pre-recorded interviews for which he does background research in addition to the brief that Martha Finlay, the guest booker, provides for him.
Jon says that his approach to interviewing changed as he became more confident. The pre-prepared list of questions which he rigidly stuck to regardless of the interviewee's responses gave way to a list of general areas to be covered.
