Half an hour before the programme goes out, David Weisbloom says that four stories have already been cut from the newsbelt because the programme is overrunning. The lawyer has been down to look at the scripts for the three newsbelt stories involving the police. Two stories - the murder of the two schoolboys and a shooting in the Harvey Nichols department store in London are fine but David has to make a slight change to the third story about an Israeli politician arriving in the UK.
Ed interrupts to tell David that there is a breaking news| story about a stabbing in Dewsbury. It seems that the three victims may be fuel protesters. Judy Laybourn, the news editor, hurries over to David's desk to brief him on the facts so far. One man has died. David has to write up the story quickly - it's going to go at the top of the first newsbelt. He needs to know if he can definitely say that the victims are fuel protesters and Judy confirms this.
