Forum Buzz: Dictators, drugs, dogma, skip-diving and dive-bombers.

Posted: 22-02-08

This week C4 dives into Day of the Kamikaze; the Freegans explain why they skip-dive (as featured on Wife Swap); Hollyoaks does drugs; R&J do elixirs; How to Look Good Naked courts men; Skins returns; Shipwrecked fans get desperate; kids preach in Baby Bible Bashers; and C4’s Castro coverage gets the 3rd degree.

If you missed them, most Channel 4 shows are free for 30 days on 4oD.
Give your opinions on these shows (or any other C4 show) below.

History in the making

The Day of the Kamikaze led to an interesting discussion in the Big Brother Forum between those who felt their heartstrings pulled by the story of the young Japanese brainwashed into flying suicide missions against allied forces and those who struggled to forgive. There’s another thread in the History Forum.
WWII was also the subject of a Time Team dig at Shooters Hill, and a popular topic in the TT Forum, but some viewers suggested the team missed a trick or two. So maybe it’s just as well that the forum members have been invited to join a follow-up dig.
Moving on to the Cold-War era, Fidel Castro’s plan to step down as President of Cuba has led to lively debate in the News Forum, but C4 News coverage received some criticism, and interviewee George Galloway earnt some fans.

Drugs and Elixirs

Back in the present, teen soap Hollyoaks, no stranger to gritty subjects, is creating a stir as it runs with its drugs storyline.
Meanwhile Skins, which follows a group of party-loving kids (also no strangers to drugs), is back for a second series, but is it as good as the first series? And what about Series 3 with an all new cast... apparently.
It wasn’t drugs, but an elixir that caused a storm for Richard and Judy, as the show did a feature on a ‘miracle water’. But then starting a topic entitled This is an obscenity - take this man off air! in the R&J Forum is begging for a healthy debate. There’s a similar thread here.
A recent video clip also aired on Richard and Judy, showing a chimp performing tricks, caused some consternation.

Sticking to your guns

Following the discussions on alternative lifestyles sparked by Wife Swap, highlighted in Last week's Forum Buzz, it’s interesting to see Freegans (featured in the programme) joining the debate.
Meanwhile, last week’s Baby Bible Bashers provoked some passionate opinions on child-preachers.

Waiting (im)patiently

Fans of all shows tend to get a bit fidgety as they wait for the next series to be announced, but we've noted that the Shipwrecked crew is getting pretty desperate.
While How to Look Good Naked is off air, some fans have petitioned to allow men to get naked too – and here’s their chance.

Last week's Forum Buzz discussed Heat or Eat: The Pensioners' Dilemma; Egypt's Rubbish People; Wife Swap; Divorce Sharia Style; Derren Brown: The System; Baby Bible Bashers; Hollyoaks; Big Brother 9; Deal or No Deal; Paul O’Grady and Alan Carr's Celebrity Ding Dong.
