Forum buzz: war and peace
Posted: 31-03-08Last week’s Forum buzz focused on things that make you see red. This week the theme is war and peace, as we pick up on discussions about Cutting Edge: Sex Change Soldier; Iraq’s lost generation; Cutting Edge’s Shannon: The Family’s Story; Curb Your Enthusiasm; Dirty Sexy Money; Time Team; Deal or No Deal; Paul O’Grady; replacing Richard and Judy; and teen programming.
If you missed them, most Channel 4 shows are free for 30 days on 4oD.
Give your opinions on these shows (or any other C4 show) below.
We start with the moving story of the tough soldier, who became a sensitive woman. Cutting Edge: Sex Change Soldier caused a big stir in the Culture Forum, with viewers (including many new to the forums) queuing up to wish Jan well in her new life as a woman, see here and here.
Dispatches: Iraq’s lost generation also had people in tears – it’s not often you hear that admitted in the News Forum.
As the UK heaved a huge sigh of relief at Shannon Mathews was found alive, the News Forum debates if we really needed to take a closer look at her family, and the implications of what they found in Cutting Edge’s Shannon: The Family’s Story.
To commemorate the five year anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, C4 ran series of programmes, which unfortunately meant changes to the planned schedule. One programme that went AWOL was Curb Your Enthusiasm, causing dismay among fans. If you are interested in, or have views on scheduling, don’t miss this.
New hit show Dirty Sexy Money had fans in the Big Brother forum debating not who did it, but if people care who murdered his dad?
Of course, the Time Team are no strangers to war or death, so you can understand this viewer’s reticence to suggest a debate on whether TT has run its course.
The Deal or No Deal fans have been taking a hard look at the show recently - see these debates: Keep your big mouth shut and cheated by the banker.
The problem with Paul O’Grady fans is that they love the show too much. There’s a bit of forum confusion as one viewer was barred from attending the show too often. Fortunately the Lost in TV team were on hand to explain the policy.
As we know, fans of daytime telly, are pretty passionate about their shows, so we guessed there’d be a healthy debate when, here on The TV Show C4’s Head of Daytime asked viewers what they thought should replace Richard and Judy.
This debate on programming for teens also had its origins here, following the announcement of C4’s blueprint for the future earlier this month.
Last week's Forum Buzz discussed The Woman Who Stops Traffic; Cutting Edge: Phone Rage; Willie's Wonky Chocolate Factory; Stephen Hawking: Master of the Universe; The Big Bang Theory; Reaper; Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares USA; Richard and Judy; Deal or No Deal.
