Cucumber, Banana and Tofu

Fifteen years after Queer As Folk exploded on to the screen, award-winning writer Russell T Davies is back with Cucumber, Banana and Tofu: three new interlinked shows for Channel 4, E4 and 4oD. Cucumber and Banana are two original drama series exploring the passions and pitfalls of 21st century gay life, while Tofu is an online documentary series that explores all facets of contemporary sex culture. Starring Vincent Franklin (The Thick of It, Twenty Twelve), Cyril Nri (The Bill), Julie Hesmondhalgh (Coronation Street), Freddie Fox (Parade’s End) and Fisayo Akinade (Fresh Meat). Launching early 2015.


Indian Summers

Indian Summers, starring Julie Walters, tells the rich and explosive story of the decline of the British Empire and the birth of modern India, from both sides of the experience.

It’s the summer of 1932 and India dreams of Independence, but the British are clinging to power. In the foothills of the Himalayas stands Simla; a little England where every summer the British power-brokers of this nation are posted to govern during the summer months. As the long hot summer begins, promises, secrets, politics, power, sex and love play out as the British Raj begins to falter – and a nation opens its eyes to the possibilities of freedom. Launching early 2015.

No Offence

TX: TBC, Channel 4

An outrageous new police procedural series from Shameless and State of Play writer Paul Abbott. Joanna Scanlan (The Thick of It, Getting On), Alexandra Roach (The Iron Lady, Utopia) and Elaine Cassidy (The Paradise, Harper’s Island) star as the unorthodox crack team of cops who go above and beyond to bring down the criminal rabble in a crumbling cop-shop. Launching spring 2015.

Channel 4, AMC and Kudos’ ambitious new series set in a parallel present, where the latest must-have gadget for any busy family is a ‘Synth’ – a highly-developed robotic servant eerily similar to its live counterpart. In the hope of transforming the way they live, one strained suburban family purchases a refurbished synth only to discover that sharing life with a machine has far-reaching and chilling consequences.

Starring William Hurt (A History of Violence, Damages), Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd, The Honourable Woman), Tom Goodman-Hill (The Devil’s Whore, Mr Selfridge), Colin Morgan (Merlin, The Fall), Rebecca Front (The Thick Of It, Just William), Neil Maskell (Utopia, The Mimic) and Gemma Chan (Dates, Fresh Meat). Launching 2015.


TX: TBC, Channel 4

Bertie Carvel (Babylon, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell), Mark Dexter (The Bletchley Circle, Ripper Street) and Ian Grieve (The Confessions of Gordon Brown) will star as Nick Clegg, David Cameron and Gordon Brown in Channel 4’s original drama Coalition. Mark Gatiss (Sherlock, The League of Gentlemen)will play Peter Mandelson.

Written by James Graham, the acclaimed playwright behind political hits Privacy, This House and Tory Boyz, Coalition charts the emotionally wrought, politically-charged and often frenzied moments which led to Nick Clegg’s astonishing rise from rank outsider to the man who would decide the fate of the country.

BAFTA-winning Alex Holmes (Dunkirk, House of Saddam) will direct the 90 minute single drama. Coalition is produced by Cuba Pictures (Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, Broken). Launching spring 2015.
