Channel 4 receives a record 27 Bafta Television Award nominations

  • Southcliffe and The IT Crowd lead with four nominations each
  • Nominations in drama, entertainment, comedy, international, factual, news and current affairs
  • Two further nominations for E4’s My Mad Fat Diary
  • Gogglebox and Educating Yorkshire nominated for Radio Times Audience Award

Channel 4 has received more BAFTA nominations than ever in its history and more than any other single channel – with 27 nominations for Channel 4 programmes and two further nominations for E4.

Jay Hunt, Channel 4’s Chief Creative Officer said: “It’s thrilling to see Channel 4 receive the highest number of BAFTA nominations in its history across such a range of categories. It’s a fitting tribute to the creativity and innovation shown by the producers we work with and everyone within the channel.”

The nominations span a range of genres, with drama Southcliffe (Warp Films) nominated for four awards including best Mini-Series and The IT Crowd (Retort) also receiving four, including Situation Comedy. Channel 4 factual output continues its strong showing with nominations for Bedlam (The Garden), Educating Yorkshire (TwoFour), Richard III: The King in the Car Park (Darlow Smithson), The Murder Trial (Windfall Films) and Gogglebox (Studio Lambert) – with factual entertainment hit The Undateables (Betty TV) and features’ Grand Designs (Boundless) also nominated. Acclaimed French supernatural drama, The Returned (Haut et Court), is nominated within the International category and Channel 4 News for News Coverage.

In the Current Affairs category, Channel 4 has secured all four of the nominations, for The Cruel Cut (Love Productions); and three Dispatches: The Hunt for Britain’s Sex Gangs (True Vision), North Korea - Life Inside the Secret State (Quicksilver Productions), and Syria – Across the Lines (Hardcash Productions). And E4’s My Mad Fat Diary (Tiger Aspect) picks up two nominations including for Drama Series.

Both Gogglebox and Educating Yorkshire are nominated for the Radio Times Audience Award – chosen by the public – with voting now open at:
