Channel 4's Specialist Factual team commission a distinctive portfolio of history, science, arts and religion programmes. From the channel’s daily religion strand, 4thought.tv to major series like Inside Nature’s Giants, our aim is to offer viewers programmes that are engaging, challenging and rich in content. Our current priorities are threefold: First, we want to back projects of real scale that can stand out in a competitive schedule. So we’re particularly keen on returnable formats and eye-catching propositions like Blitz Street. Second, we are aiming to generate more events, stripped or themed weeks and programmes with live elements. Surgery Live or Alone in the Wild are good, recent examples of innovation in this space. Third, we’re working to find new faces around which our subjects can revolve. Across all our genres we want to find new characters who have outstanding stories, ideas, qualifications and communication skills and whom an audience will relate strongly to.
