Jonathan Foyle

Jonathan Foyle

Dr Jonathan Foyle has been a regular specialist contributor on architecture and buildings archaeology to Time Team since 2003. He has a full architectural training and holds a doctorate in buildings archaeology with two research awards. His practical experience includes working as a surveyor of Canterbury Cathedral, and as buildings curator at Hampton Court Palace and Kew Palace for almost eight years. He teaches architectural history for Cambridge University's International Division and has written widely.

As Time Team's buildings expert, he was involved in the excavation of Syon Abbey, beneath the lawns of Syon House in Middlesex. 'Uncovering the remains of a forgotten 15th-century cathedral-sized royal abbey is a once-in-a-lifetime find for a buildings historian,' he says.
