Based
on the 4x4 Daimler Scout Car chassis (which was armed with just a Bren
gun), the Mk1 had an additional two-person turret which held a 2lb quick-fire
main gun. Powered by a tough 95bhp Daimler petrol engine, the car proved
itself in the North African campaign.
The vehicle also had five forward and five reverse gears to enable a quick getaway if needed. The Mk1 finally retired from the British army in 1961. There was also a close support version equipped with a larger main gun.
